Financial Need
Pell Grant
The Federal Pell Grant is considered the foundation of the federal student aid program. It is a need-based grant that can be used for any educational expenses including tuition, fees, room and board, and/or other living expenses.
- Who is eligible: Undergraduate students with significant financial need
- Maximum annual award: $5,350 for 2009-2010

Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG) increase gift aid for very high need undergraduate students.
- Who is eligible: Pell Grant recipients with the lowest expected family contributions (EFCs) are considered first.
- Maximum annual award: $4,000
- How to apply: Submit your FAFSA by March 1.

Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)
The ACG is different from other need-based grants because recipients must also show academic talent.
- Who is eligible: Pell Grant recipients who also:
- are first or second-year undergraduate students;
- completed a rigorous secondary school program of study
(after January 1, 2006, if a first-year student, and after January 1, 2005, if a second-year student); and
- maintained a 3.0 GPA during first year of study (second year students only).
- Maximum annual award: $750 for the first year of study and $1,300 for the second year

Monetary Award Program (MAP)
MAP grants are the basis of the State of Illinois student financial assistance program.
- Who is eligible: Undergraduate students who are Illinois residents with demonstrated financial need
- Maximum annual award: $4,968

Student-to-Student Grant (STS)
STS Grants are awarded to students with high financial need according to criteria similar to those for the FSEOG.
- Who is eligible: Undergraduates with high financial need. MAP Grant recipients are automatically considered.

Illinois Incentive for Access Program (IIA)
The Silas Purnell Illinois Incentive for Access (IIA) Program offers a one-time grant for high need, first year students.
- Who is eligible: Freshman, undergraduate MAP recipients who have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of zero
- Maximum annual award: $500 for one year
