Enrolling in Summer
Taking summer courses can help you progress toward your degree, but financial aid is limited.
- Students who qualify for the Federal Pell Grant, based on current year FAFSA results, can continue to receive the grant if enrolled in the summer.
- Funds received the previous year from a program listed below can be used for summer if any eligibility remains. The Illinois State summer application is required.
- Special Education Teacher Tuition Waiver (SETTW)
- Illinois National Guard (ING) Grant
- Illinois Veterans Grant (IVG)
- MIA/POW Scholarship
- Nursing Education Scholarship (NES)
- Grant Programs for Dependents of Police, Fire, or Correctional Officers (PFC)
- For Federal student loan consideration, the student must enroll in a minimum of six hours and have remaining loan eligibility. See Federal Interest Rates and Fees. The Illinois State University summer financial aid application is required.
- A Parent Plus Loan may be used if the eligible dependent student is enrolled in a minimum of six hours for the summer and eligibility from the previous fall and spring semesters remains. A summer Parent Plus Loan application is required.

- The Illinois State University summer financial aid application should be completed once registered for summer courses if planning to utilize loans or special aid programs.
- Federal student loans for summer must be accepted prior to the last day of the student’s summer enrollment.
- Funds for summer Federal Pell Grant recipients will apply to charges the week the final summer course begins.
